jMSP — MSP Operations and Inventory Platform
An engineering project: one place for managed service providers to record and look up their clients' environments.
Overview
jMSP is an inventory and operations platform designed for managed service providers (MSPs). It brings client companies, offices, devices, networks, internet links, software and licenses, documents and sensitive information into one system, with role-based access and audit logging.
Context
The project required a way for technical teams to record and find what is deployed at each client — sites, equipment, network details and licenses — with access controlled per user and role and sensitive records protected.
Solution
A Spring Boot backend exposing a documented REST API, a PostgreSQL database with versioned migrations, and a React and TypeScript frontend that is packaged with the backend and served from the same application.
Architecture and engineering approach
- Modular monolith organized by domain: companies, offices, devices, networks, software and licenses, documents, users and roles.
- Users, roles and granular permissions, with a system-wide multi-factor authentication policy (TOTP and passkeys).
- Sensitive records are stored encrypted, and actions are recorded in an audit log.
- REST API documented with OpenAPI, in-app and email notifications, and global search.
- Container-based deployment, with the database kept on a separate host.
